I. Introduce

Classifying input English level is important in placing students in foreign language classes at the right level to ensure students study well and meet the requirements of foreign language subjects.

Level classification is done through the English test "TOEIC Placement" organized by the School for K68 students.

Students can choose:

1. Register to participate in the level classification exam by paying the test fee along with the first course fees according to the announcement of the Student Affairs Department.

Based on the results of the classification test, the school will consider exempting one or several English subjects from the mandatory training program and placing them in classes appropriate to their level.

2. Students who do not register for the placement test will be placed in the lowest English level class.

3. Students who already have an international English certificate that is valid as of October 3, 2023 do not need to classify their English level and are exempt from all mandatory English subjects in the training program if they meet the requirements. down here:

a) For the Standard and Information Technology program (Viet Nhat): students have an IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent or higher.

b) For Advanced or International programs with English output standards: students have an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent or higher.

c) For Talent and PFIEV programs: students have an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent or higher.

II. Subjects needing to participate in testing:

1. K68 students in the training program have English as the output standard.

2. Students in the following programs are not required to take the English test at the beginning of the course:

a) Information technology (Vietnamese - French): main foreign language is French.

b) Intelligent embedded systems and IoT (advanced CT): main foreign language is Japanese.

c) Mechatronics - cooperation with Nagaoka University of Technology (Japan): main foreign language is Japanese.

d) Mechatronics - cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover (Germany): main foreign language is German.

e) Electronics - Telecommunications - cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover (Germany): main foreign language is German.

f) International Professional English and English for Science, Technology and Technology: major in foreign languages.

III. TOEIC placement test format: Students will take the test in 2 hours, including 200 questions divided into 2 parts as follows: Details of the test parts are as follows:

1. Listening comprehension section: Assesses the level of listening comprehension of spoken English, including 100 questions with 4 parts conducted via audio in 45 minutes.

Candidates will listen to descriptions, questions, conversations and informational passages in English, then choose answers based on the content they have heard.

2. Reading comprehension section: Assesses the level of understanding of written English, including 100 questions with 3 parts conducted in 75 minutes. Candidates will read the information in the test and choose answers based on the content they have read.

IV. Form and time of inspection:

1. Exam format: students take the exam on computers at the Computer Rooms of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

2. Organizing time: expected from August 26 - August 30, 2023.

3. Examination fee: 350,000 VND – paid together with the beginning of the course fees according to the announcement of the Student Affairs department.

4. TOEIC placement test registration form: pay the test fee along with the beginning of the course fees. The Training Department will prepare a list of students to take the exam based on the student's payment of 350,000 VND.

V. Procedures for applying for foreign language exemption with international certificates:

List of students who have submitted foreign language certificates to the Admissions Office and CLA center and have had their certificates checked for accuracy: https://cla.hust.edu.vn/

2. CLA Center: will transfer the list of students and certificates to the Training Department to carry out foreign language exemption procedures for students.

3. Training Department: will update the results to the student account.
