THE WUR is considered one of the most independent and reputable rankings, evaluating universities based on 13 indicators divided into 5 groups:
- Training (quality of learning and teaching environment): 30%;
- Research (productivity, income and reputation): 30%
- Citations (research impact): 30%
- International presence (attracting faculty, students, and international research collaboration) 7.5%
- Revenue from cooperation with businesses (Knowledge transfer efficiency): 2.5%
Evaluating THE WUR rankings, Associate Professor. Hoang Minh Son - Principal of the school commented, "Most rankings attach importance to research achievement indicators but rarely evaluate the quality of training and social impact. In THE's rankings, productivity, reputation and research impact indicators account for 60%, and even teaching quality criteria are based on the scale of doctoral training (8.25%). ) and the votes of scholars with high achievements in research (15%), partly indirectly reflecting research capacity. If we also include the index of knowledge transfer and international publication cooperation, it can be said that criteria directly or indirectly related to research have a weight of more than 90%. Meanwhile, the indicators that most closely reflect the quality of training such as the level of effort of the learner, the level of satisfaction of the learner, the employment rate of graduates, and the level of income increase upon graduation. I haven't seen any reputable rankings mention it yet. That is also an issue we need to consider when building a development strategy, we need to pay attention to all three core tasks of a university's mission: training, research and community service." .
Hanoi University of Science and Technology is very pleased that more and more Vietnamese universities are entering international rankings, thus achieving the goal of having 4 higher education institutions in the top 1000 in the world according to the World Ranking Index. The project to improve the quality of higher education for the period 2019 - 2025 (approved by the Prime Minister) was achieved 6 years early. In the coming time, domestic universities need to cooperate more closely, comprehensively and effectively, instead of focusing only on international cooperation so far.
