Except for some "hot" majors, most benchmark scores based on high school graduation exam results for majors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will tend to decrease.

According to Dr. Le Dinh Nam, Deputy Head of Admissions Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, benchmark scores for majors nationwide may increase slightly but benchmark scores for training programs of Hanoi University of Science and Technology may decrease.

Dr. Le Dinh Nam advises students and parents at the Admissions and Career Guidance Consulting Day 3/2023

With some "hot" industries that many candidates are interested in and have a high level of competition such as the Information Technology industry group, this year's benchmark score is likely to increase slightly, especially when there are some Information Technology admission codes. Last year's news did not take high school exam results.

The automation, mechatronics and information technology industry groups will have benchmark scores that may remain the same or not change significantly.

Most of the remaining programs predict that benchmark scores may decrease.

Giving an explanation for this prediction, Dr. Le Dinh Nam said that based on statistics, the number of candidates choosing to study at university is decreasing, with only about 50% of candidates enrolling in university. According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of high school graduates registering for university admission decreased by nearly 20% compared to 2021 and decreased by 3.4% compared to 2020.

Meanwhile, the number of candidates choosing the Natural Sciences block, the enrollment source for schools that focus on recruiting heavily in blocks A00, A01, B00, D07 such as Hanoi Polytechnic, decreased compared to previous years, only accounting for about 31.52% of those participating in the High School TN exam.

Along with today's diverse admission methods, many candidates with good qualifications have been admitted using early admission methods.

Unlike 2022, this year, all training majors of Hanoi Polytechnic use high school graduation exam results for admission. Admission criteria to Hanoi Polytechnic University based on test scores (including high school test scores and Thinking Assessment) increased compared to last year, accounting for 85-90%. This is also one of the bases for evaluating the benchmark score for admission to Hanoi Polytechnic that will decrease compared to previous years.

Deputy Head of Admissions Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology also gave advice to this year's candidates in choosing suitable majors and professions: Candidates should carefully research majors based on their interests, abilities and qualifications. family, don't follow the crowd.

The majors at Hanoi Polytechnic currently record very high employment rates after graduation with good salaries. Many alumni have achieved success in the fields they studied, even in less "hot" fields after graduating. "Choosing a major based on personal advantages is a solid stepping stone for learners to shine on their career path," Dr. Le Dinh Nam said.

Besides, with the trend of interdisciplinary - multidisciplinary in higher education, engineering majors are linked and similar. For example, candidates interested in electronics can learn more about some related industries such as materials, engineering physics, etc. to increase their chances of passing into their favorite field.

He also said that candidates with low scores should have high aspirations because "if you don't register your aspirations, the chance of passing is 0; If you register, the opportunity, no matter how small, is still there." He affirmed that the standard score predictions are for reference only. Candidates below the predicted level should still boldly register for their favorite major because the order of their preferences does not affect the results of passing the criteria below.

Previously, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has just announced the prediction of admission benchmarks according to this year's thinking assessment exam results based on the score spectrum and the candidate's tendency to choose majors. The predicted standard score on a 100-point scale includes the Thinking Assessment test score, priority scores (regional scores, subject scores) and foreign language certificate bonus points. The quality assurance threshold, or minimum admission score, for the thinking assessment test method of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is expected to be 50 points.
