“Most girls who want to go to technical school are advised not to because the field is difficult. But after 5 years, I see nothing that prevents women from developing in the industry," Dieu Huong said.

Hoang Le Dieu Huong is a final-year student majoring in Electronics - Computer Engineering, Institute of Electronics - Telecommunications, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. She is an inspirational factor who studies hard and actively participates in Youth Union activities.

Special. Huong has had scientific research projects and most recently was one of 20 people to receive the Outstanding Female Student Award in the field of science and technology in 2019.

The "hot girl" of Polytechnic University is both beautiful and has outstanding academic and scientific research achievements

"Rose" rich in achievements of Polytechnic University

Hoang Le Dieu Huong

When she was in high school, Huong was a student specializing in block D at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School. Although Huong herself believes that she is more inclined to study block A than block D, her English foreign language score is still very respectable, IELTS 7.0.

Currently, at the university level, Huong has a CPA score of 3.64/4.

Dieu Huong chose to study Electronics and Telecommunications because she likes studying Math and Physics. When registering for the university entrance exam, Huong actively searched for a major that required the application of a lot of Math - Physics, and electronics and telecommunications were very suitable for the criteria she set.

“After 5 years of study, I realized that it was a very right decision because when studying this field, I can fully develop my abilities and interests. I hope in the future I will become a research and development (R&D) engineer.

In addition to research, I always want to be able to apply these research projects to real products, serving specific purposes, bringing visible results," 9x shared.

Besides professional studies and research, Huong also spends time studying English intensively because she is determined to continue pursuing graduate studies abroad.

Huong said: "I think that when you have a clear goal, studying becomes much more effective."

Furthermore, Dieu Huong is also a "leader" of the student movement at school. Huong shared: "I think leadership is a difficult job and requires a lot of skills. A leader must be a person with vision." Look, be responsible and know how to inspire everyone in the team.

I feel that I'm still not good at this skill, but I'm still trying to improve myself to have a better future version."

Stereotypes about the role of women in the engineering industry

Faced with the fact that the field of engineering is dominated by men, men almost make up the absolute majority. As a girl, Huong is not worried about being "inferior" or having difficulty developing in this industry.

“I think this is a social prejudice that needs to be eliminated. When most girls express their desire to go to technical school, their family and friends often advise them not to because this field is difficult for girls.

But through the process of studying, working and researching for 5 years, I realized that there is nothing that prevents women from developing in this industry.

In fact, there are some professions that are more suitable for men when they require physical strength, because on average women are worse than men in this criterion.

However, my major does not require physical strength at all and I see that girls can be just as talented as boys.

Therefore, I hope that in the future, girls will not hesitate to register for a major according to their own dreams because of social prejudices," Huong commented.

To clarify her point of view, Huong outlined specific measures: "I think that first, society needs to eliminate stereotypes about women working in this industry, then women will be more courageous in research." and dedication.

I think that the Outstanding Female Student Award in the field of science and technology is a form of encouraging the role of women."

However, female students at the Polytechnic School also look straight at the problem that working with computers regularly is harmful to health, especially eyes and skin.

Huong overcomes this by applying the 20-20-20 rule, which means that for every 20 minutes of working on the computer, look at an object 20 feet away (equivalent to 6 meters) for 20 seconds and often take care of your skin at night. evening before going to bed.

Students study science

Up to now, there have been 2 scientific publications at international conferences and both are on the topic "Online video streaming".

In recent years, online learning and meetings have gradually become popular, especially during the current Covid-19 epidemic. However, the quality of video streaming over the network is not good such as lag, freezing, blurry video,... making the ability to interact between teachers, students and colleagues ineffective. Huong's research topic aims to solve these problems.

When the quality of online video transmission is better, online learning and meetings become more effective and popular, the need for travel will decrease, and environmental pollution will be significantly reduced.

Through practical research, Dieu Huong finds that scientific research is very useful for students because then students have more in-depth knowledge about the field they research.

Furthermore, through research, young people have more thinking to create new works instead of just learning from existing knowledge like learning in the classroom.

However, scientific research is a challenge for students because the amount of learning in the classroom is quite large, especially students who have the mindset of following and imitating since elementary school, so Changing your mindset and learning a completely new job is not easy.

Currently, scientific research projects by students are limited. This 9x believes that there are many reasons for this.

First of all, studying in class takes up a lot of students' time. Second, because changing from a learning mindset to a creating new mindset takes a lot of time. Last but not least, it is because students are not motivated to do scientific research.

In general, at universities in Vietnam today, there are not many research rooms for students, and the scientific research movement among students is not high.
